What a UX audit or an accessibility audit costs in Europe

Gideon Awolesi ·

Right now, if you search for what a UX audit costs, a lot of the pages you'll find are written by US agencies and quote prices in dollars. That isn't much help if you're a European team trying to budget in euros. This page gives you our own prices, the ranges other studios publish, and what actually moves the price up or down, so you can compare quotes properly.

01What our reviews cost

Every review below has a fixed price for the scope we agree on in writing. The prices are starting prices, and the final quote depends on the number of flows or journeys in scope.

ReviewPriceLengthWhat it covers
Accessibility Auditfrom €2,5002 weeksUp to five key journeys tested by hand with a keyboard and a screen reader against WCAG 2.2 AA, a ranked issue list, a fix plan, and a draft accessibility statement
Product Readiness Reviewfrom €2,5002 weeksThe UX and the architecture of an MVP built with tools like Lovable or Cursor, ranked by what's likely to break in production

02What other studios publish

A lot of studios don't publish prices at all. The ones that do give a useful range:

  • Built for Mars, a UK UX consultancy, lists typical audit prices of around £8,000 to £15,000.
  • Orbix Studio's cost guide puts a heuristic review of one or two flows at about $1,500 to $3,000.
  • Freelance audit listings on marketplaces like Contra and Upwork start from around $100 and go up to about $2,000.

The spread is wide because these aren't the same product. A cheap listing is usually one person looking at screens for a few hours. A higher price usually buys manual testing, a written report your developers can act on, and someone who walks your team through the findings.

03What changes the price

  • The number of journeys or flows in scope. Five checkout and sign-up journeys is a very different job from a whole product.
  • The number of platforms. Web, iOS, and Android each need their own testing, so every platform you add makes the job bigger.
  • Manual testing. An automated scan takes minutes, while testing with a keyboard and a screen reader takes days, and it's where a lot of real accessibility problems show up.
  • Regulated documentation. A review that has to hold up in front of a notified body or the FDA needs traceable findings, and that takes longer to write.
  • A retest. Some quotes include a second pass after your fixes, and some don't, so check.

04A free scan or a paid audit?

Free tools like axe, WAVE, and Lighthouse are a good first step, and we use them too. The thing is, they only catch the problems a machine can detect. A screen reader user can still get stuck on a checkout that passes every automated check, because the scan can't tell if the focus order makes sense or if an error message is ever read out.

So if you've never checked your product, run a free scan first and fix what it finds. Then pay for a manual audit of the journeys that make you money.

05What you should get for the money

Whoever you hire, a good audit report should give you:

  • Every issue linked to the screen or step where it happens
  • For accessibility, the WCAG criterion each issue fails
  • A ranking by impact, so your team knows what to fix first
  • Notes your developers can act on without a meeting
  • A walkthrough call where you can ask questions

06How to compare two quotes

Ask each studio the same questions: which journeys they'll test, on which platforms, with which assistive technology, against which version of WCAG, if a retest is included, and what the final report looks like. If one quote is half the price of the other, the answers usually explain why.
